This is the fifth (and penultimate) book in the Legends of the First Empire series by Michael J. Sullivan. It is set in the same world as his Riyria Revelations and Riyria Chronicles series, but in the distant past. Like the previous book in this series, this is a multiple perspective story.

I’ve really enjoyed the first four books, so I had high hopes for this one and I’m happy to say it didn’t disappoint. It was great to be back in this world and with these characters. It did take me a little while to get back into the story, but I blame that on myself – I should have reread the previous books before continuing with the series. Sullivan’s writing keeps getting better with each of his books and I find them to be easy and enjoyable reads, this installment is no exception…
